Fun Facts

Here are a couple of fun facts to get you exited about volunteering.

Volunteering is very sought after by universities

A recent survey of both public and private universities in the US showed some very interesting results:

  • Fifty-eight percent of respondents agreed that “a student’s community service experience has a positive impact on his or her acceptance to our higher education institution.”

  • Fifty-three percent of respondents said community service can be a deciding factor when the choices are equally qualified students.

  • Sixty-one percent of respondents at private schools said community service can be the deciding factor.

This is because volunteers are well-minded individuals who are not scared of taking action and playing their part to help out their community. This is exactly what most universities are looking for, especially if you want to study in the US.

Impact on mental wellbeing

96% of volunteers say that volunteering has made them happier in their lives.

This is because as a volunteer, you dedicate your time to helping others, and giving them a better life. The smile that you see on a person's face after helping them is all you need to feel content about yourself. Volunteers know that they are doing something impactful with their lives, and that helps to give them a sense of meaning and purpose, which translates into happiness, and a strong mental well-being.
