I know, I know..."What in the world does running have to do with volunteering?" That's probably what's going through your mind right now, so just bear with me.
Running has always been a wonderful way for everyday people to keep healthy, happy and help others all at once. This is because many organisations donate money to people in need for every, let's say, mile that you run. Furthermore, participating in a marathon that represents a certain issue, such as cancer, is a great way to raise awareness. And if you want to, you can donate a small amount of money while you're there to further support the cause.
Ways to run and make an impact:
Charity Miles: This app is one of the best examples of how you can help others without needing to set aside a sum of money. This is great if you're a young student who wants to donate to those in need but doesn't have the finance to do so yet. Instead, you can use your running skills, and for every set distance you run, sponsors of the app will donate to one of 40 unique charities of your choice. But it's not only running; you could walk or even cycle!
Local Charity Marathons: These marathons usually have the main aim of raising awareness about a certain issue, and they can also raise money in multiple ways. For example, some marathons have an entry fee, which is used to cover costs, and whatever's left over goes towards the cause it's supporting. Some marathons are free to enter, and their main aim is to raise awareness about an issue or gather donations.

Taking part in a marathon specifically is a great volunteering idea, but it does have a process to it. So let me take through some specifics before you can get started...
Do some research about the cause you want to support and find a list of marathons taking place locally throughout the year.
Register for the marathon online or in-person to secure your spot - make sure you do this early as spots run out quick!
Train regularly to build up your stamina and endurance for the marathon.
On the day of the event, arrive early to check-in and warm up before the race.
During the marathon, pace yourself and stay hydrated to keep your energy up - If at any point you feel incapable of continuing, just stop, breathe, and don't push yourself to the point of failure. Remember, you're not just there to win!
Celebrate your accomplishment at the finish line and feel proud of supporting a good cause.
Don't forget to take pictures and share with friends and family to spread awareness!

so...
Stay safe
Go out there
And run your heart out!
